A CHILDREN’S charity has received a £10,000 boost thanks to a Bury-based business.

William Hare Group, a steel fabrication company, has raised £10,000 to support Prestwich-based children’s charity MedEquip4Kids.

William Hare chose to support MedEquip4Kids in memory of former employee and MedEquip4Kids patron Jim Hall, who died early in 2016.

Mr Hall started his career from leaving school at William Hare and played an active role in the company for more than 67 years. He was a strong supporter of local good causes and was a patron of MedEquip4Kids for many years.

The company has had a very proactive year of fundraising and held a five-a-side football tournament, long-distance hill walking, quiz night, cake sale, sky dive, Christmas raffle, football sweepstake and took part in the Salford Quays Dragon Boat Race to raise the funds.

Judith Watts, head of human resources at William Hare Group, said: “We chose MedEquip4Kids in honour of Jim, a former employee who was also a patron of the charity. Jim was well known and well liked at William Hare and news of his unexpected death was a shock to his friends and colleagues.

“It seemed like a fitting tribute to be able to continue the support for MedEquip4Kids, a great cause that Jim had so proudly supported.”

Paul Cocker, senior fundraiser at MedEquip4Kids, added: “ This donation of £10,000, raised by employees, will go a huge way in supporting vital children’s medical equipment in local children’s wards. We are hugely grateful to everyone involved.”
