FUNDRAISERS are calling on the people of Bury to get behind a campaign to eradicate polio once and for all.

The Rotary Clubs of Bury have united to create Purple4Polio — a weekend of concerts and events to raise funds and awareness of the disease.

The Purple weekend takes place in the town centre on March 18 and 19, with The Fusiliers Band, brass bands, string orchestras, choirs and many more holding concerts in the Mill Gate and on The Rock.

There will be face painting, balloons and more, including a virtual parade.

Rotary spokesman Patrick Wall said: "It costs just £2 to vaccinate four children against polio. That's four children who don't have to live in fear. £2 is about the cost of a cup of coffee. You could give up just one cup to help.

"Will you miss your cup of coffee — probably not. Will four children miss their vaccination? You can bet on that!"

To donate, text PURP33£2 TO 70070 which will cost £2 plus standard network charge.
