POLICE investigating an aggravated burglary where a man was threatened with firearms in Prestwich have released CCTV images of two men they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

At around 9.15pm on Wednesday, April 12, the victim, his wife and their 18-month-old child were in their home address in Rectory Lane when they heard the front door being opened.

The male victim walked into the entrance hall to discover an unknown man wearing a balaclava and armed with a machete standing by the front door.

A second man was stood behind him outside.

When he shouted at the intruders, they both turned and ran back out the door.

The man armed with the machete was shouting 'wrong gaff mate, wrong gaff' as he fled, with the victim chasing after him clutching a steel mace which he had picked up on his way out of the house.

He chased the offenders until they reached the street, but as he approached them the second offender pulled a gun out of his waistband and pointed it at the victim.

The victim immediately dropped the mace and put his hands up in the air, which allowed the first offender to also pull a gun from his waistband.

The victim backed away towards the house with his hands in the air and eventually got inside, allowing the two offenders to escape on pedal bikes.

The first offender is described as white, in his late teens or early twenties, very slim build, around 5ft 10in tall and spoke with a strong Salford accent.

He was dressed all in black, wearing a balaclava and carrying a 8in-long machete with a square blade and a black pistol-type firearm.

The second offender is described as around 5ft 8in tall, slim build and also spoke with a strong Salford accent.

He was also wearing all black and a balaclava.

DC Donna Haldane said: “The victim was incredibly brave to chase after these two men, who were armed with some very dangerous weaponry.

“Thankfully the man and his family are unscathed, but the fact is these men pose a serious risk to the public and it is imperative that we track them down.

“Our investigations have revealed two CCTV images of men matching the description of the offenders in the surrounding area, one at the Longfield Centre off Bury New Road, and the other in Heywood Road.

“These images may not be of the offenders at all, they may be completely innocent members of the public, but it is vitally important we identify and speak to them, even if it is just to rule them out of our enquiries.

“If you can help us identify the men shown, or know anything else about the incident which may assist our investigation, please call us as soon as possible.”
