Friends, neighbours and strangers gathered in Radcliffe Piazza to pay tribute to the victims of last night's terror attack in Manchester.

Organised by Cllr Jamie Walker, the vigil held at 11am was led by The Reverend Nigel Adkinson, who said prayers for the victims and their loved ones.

Mr Adkinson, of Radcliffe United Reformed Church, said: "We met at 11am and held a minute's silence and I offered prayers.

"We had an opportunity for people to talk with each other, those directly affected by last night's attack, either family or friends."

The vigil was attended by a number of councillors including Catherine Preston, Tony Cummings and Rachel Skillen.

Prospective parliamentary candidate for Bury South, Ivan Lewis was also in attendance.

All the main political parties have said they are suspending campaigning today out of respect.

Cllr Walker from Radcliffe said: "It was for all the victims of the attack and it was a chance to share collective grief, a moment of reflection."

Mr Adkinson also urged those present to attend a vigil, which will be held tonight outside Manchester Town Hall in Albert Square at 6pm.

He has opened Radcliffe United Reformed Church in Blackburn Street for prayer today until 2.30pm.

He added Rector Carol Hayden of St Mary's Parish Church in Church Green had done the same.
