ORGANISERS of this year’s East Lancashire Railway1940s Weekend say the event will go ahead – but there have been changes.

Following the terror attacks in Manchester, they have removed battle re-enactments and weapon demonstrations from this year’s programme.

A spokesman said: “The East Lancashire Railway is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news that occurred on Monday night at the Manchester Arena.”

The event, which has grown over the past two decades, is now an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza and a big hitter on the annual 1940s calendar, attracting more than 7,000 visitors each year. It will be held over the Spring Bank Holiday this weekend.

Mike Kelly, ELR chairman said: “Our 1940s Weekend is one the most popular events in our annual calendar.

"The event really does have something to offer every age and interest. We’ve added more attractions to this year’s line-up and advance ticket sales are up 20 per cent, so fingers crossed we’re set for another excellent event.”

Day tickets are available for adults at £19.00, concessions at £17.00, children (5 – 17 years) at £11.00 and families (2 adults and 3 children) at £47.00, Under fives go free.
