BURY Council has provided more detail about how it will improve Summerseat’s roads, after after councillors agreed to step up the response to the devastating floods of 2015.

The £320,000 scheme involves completely resurfacing two of the village’s main roads and drainage work. The work will start tomorrow and last for seven weeks, during which time there will be road closures and disruption to traffic.

There will be drainage and carriageway works on Rowlands Road, between Twist Bridge and Queen’s Place. Rowlands Road will be completely closed to all vehicles and pedestrians from 21 July until completion of the works. This will mean that no vehicular access between B6214 Longsight Road and A56 Walmersley Road will be possible. Signed diversion routes will be put in place.

Rowlands Road (Twist Bridge to Crag Lane) and Railway Street (to Peel Hall Road/Waterside Road) will then be completely resurfaced. This work will be undertaken from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained along Railway Street, but with parking suspensions in place during working hours.

While Rowlands Road is closed the bus service will terminate at Summerseat Garden Centre where a temporary stop will be provided.
