TWO care homes have been rated 'good' in their latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) reports.

Epworth Grange in Chirmside Street, Bury, and The Heathlands Village in Heathlands Drive, Prestwich, were awarded the rating in reports published last week.

The unannounced inspection at Epworth Grange took place on September 14 and found that people who lived at the care home were satisfied with their care, had access to healthcare professionals and their healthcare needs were met.

It also found that residents were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and that staff support them in the least restrictive way possible.

Epworth Grange is run by Methodist Homes and received a rating of ‘good’ in its last inspection in 2015.

The inspection at The Heathlands Village was carried out after the CQC received information about an incident following which a person using the service later died.

The inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident and only covered the findings in relation to whether the service is safe and well led.

However, the information shared with CQC indicated potential concerns about how the service managed the risks of falls when moving and handling people using lifting equipment such as a hoist.

They found that “care records, risk assessments and systems were in place to help direct staff to use the correct hoist and sling that people had been assessed to use.”

They concluded that “the provider had taken prompt action to help prevent a similar incident occurring.”

The care home was last inspected in 2016 and received good with outstanding for responsiveness.
