PUPILS from Bury Grammar School for Girls stepped back in time to travel to the Quarry Bank Mill in Styal, one of the best preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution.

Dressed as Victorians, the year five pupils had the opportunity to explore local history and experience some of the gruelling jobs inside a working mill.

These jobs included collecting cotton from the floor, sweeping and piecing. The pupils had a tour around the mill where they were shown the machinery and told about the types of jobs the children did and the accidents that happened.

Whilst visiting the Apprentice House, they took part in a Victorian lesson and were shown the medical room and the types of medicines that were used. They also had the opportunity to see the laundry room, kitchen and the toilets. By the end of the afternoon the girls were all happy to step back into the 21st Century.
