A DERELICT building has been brought back into use as a 60-child capacity nursery.

The Bury site was formerly occupied by Park Nursey which was rated 'inadequate' by regulator Ofsted.

A £40,000 renovation has been carried out to give the Victorian building in Pimhole Fold, off Pimhole Road, a makeover.

The premises was secured by Mohammed Janeed, who runs Aspire Kids Varsity, in May this year.

Mr Janeed said: "This building housed a nursery for 20 years but it was closed down.

"The site remained shut for two years but now we are reopening to create somewhere for children to learn.

"This is huge for the community.

"We have totally kitted it out and doubled the original capacity.

"We are committed to the area. The most important thing for us it to reintroduce a nursery for the community while providing outstanding tuition."

So far, five Bury-based staff members have been hired for the new enterprise, with further interviewing underway.

The new nursery will cater for 60 full-time children, or 120 part-time when it opens.

To enable the site to open, Mr Janeed and his team had to replace the entire roof, which cost around £12,000.

They have also pulled out old furnishings, plastered and decorated the building.

An official opening will take place tomorrow, attending by the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Dorothy Gunther and MP for Bury North James Frith.

Aspire Kids Varsity is an enterprise which operates several nurseries, learning centres and after-school clubs across Bury and Bolton.
