A SECOND arrest has been made in connection with a shooting that left a man fighting for his life.

The 24-year-old, from Whitefield, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and will remain in custody for questioning.

Three masked men forced their way into a 49-year-old John Louden’s home, in Glebelands Road Prestwich where they shot him with a shotgun.

After firing the gun at close range, they then fled the house heading towards Poppythorn Lane.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police were called to the address at about 8.40pm on Monday, November 27 and understand the trio had gone to the house earlier, retreated, and returned to carry out the attack.

Officers arrested a 33-year-old man from Whitefield on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday (Saturday).

He has since been released on bail until the end of December.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Cadden of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “This is our second arrest as part of this investigation, but I want to make it clear that our enquiries do not stop here.

“My team have been carrying out extensive enquiries and we will continue to work round the clock to find those responsible for this brutal attack.

“We know these men were in the area between 6.30pm and 8.30pm that night and we now believe they were brought to the scene in a white Fiat 500 car which has been seized by officers."

She continued: “If you saw this car in the area or anything suspicious – even the tiniest detail - please get in touch.

“What you think might be an irrelevant bit of information could be the final key for this investigation.”
