A HEADTEACHER has been speaking about the progress made at a top Bury school.
The speech was made during The Derby's School presentation evening by head Helen Hubert who praised the efforts of the class of 2017.
Guests of honour included the Bury Council leader Cllr Rishi Shori and the Mayor of Bury Cllr Dorothy Gunther.
Ms Hubert said: “Last year we were second in Bury for student progress and this year progress results for the class of 2017 were the joint highest for Bury schools and puts the school in the top 18 per cent of schools in the country.
"These results are testament to the excellent teaching our students have received and demonstrate that hard work really does pay off."
During her speech the head she adopted the quote “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” and attributed to Winston Churchill on helping others through service to community and society at large.
She explained: “Service requires duty, dedication and commitment. Each of us has gifts: skills, talents, material resources, connections and presence – everything we consider ourselves privileged to have – that we can share.”
Ms Hubert also paid tribute to former headteacher, the late Alyson Byrne, outlining her many educational achievements along with her passion and dedication to the school its staff and pupils
