A PRESTWICH primary school has been ranked in the top two per cent in the nation.

Sedgley Park Community Primary School, in Kings Road, has been recognised for its "Outstanding Progress" in Key Stage 2 reading, writing and maths tests.

The test results mean that the school is now one of the top 500 in England for pupil progress.

Sedgley Park headteacher, John Gregory, said: "This achievement is down to the commitment and dedication of staff and pupils alike.

"The children are amazing and my staff are incredible. They seek to give all children within our school the very best education possible, to prepare them for high school and the world beyond."

The announcement follows several recent changes made at Sedgley Park, including the appointment of Mr Gregory and creation of a new senior leadership team.

The school has further changed its curriculum, amended the school day to increase teaching time and appointed new staff to join the school's existing body.

As a result of improvements in outcomes in recent years, the school has received a letter from the Minister for School Standards, Nick Gibb MP, congratulating them on the high levels of progress achieved.

Chair of Sedgley Park governors, Helen Williams, said: "On behalf of the Governing Body I would like to say how proud we are of the continued progress made by our school.

"We congratulate all the staff on making Sedgley Park a happy school where our children can learn and thrive — and well done to the pupils for their hard work and commitment."

The school are also now set to receive a regional award for their excellent results in 2017 by the Schools, Students and Teachers Network.

Based on data from the Department of Education and Ofsted the school has been ranked in the top 10 per cent nationally.

Sue Williamson, chief executive of SSAT, said: "I am delighted that Sedgley Park Community Primary School has won an Educational Outcomes Award for Children's Progress — top 10 per cent.

This award recognises an important aspect of the school's work, but, as we know, there is much more to recognise in a good school like Sedgley Park.

"SSAT is pleased to recognise the quality of leadership and the hard work of all staff to ensure the success of every child.

"A big thank you and well done to pupils, parents, staff and governors."
