WHAT do shire horses and a tough-guy actor have in common?

The answer is that they were both guests of honour at the relaunch of a Walshaw pub.

Mike Leggatt, aged 60, and his wife, Seving, could not have chosen a better opening weekend for the White Horse on Hall Street.

The sunshine and Bank Holiday atmosphere attracted customers in droves to the pub, which has re-opened after a £90,000 refurbishment.

Actor Adam Fogerty, who appeared in Guy Ritchies’s Snatch and the recent wrestling comedy film, Walk Like A Panther, spent Sunday afternoon at the pub.

The Oldham-born former boxer and rugby player welcomed customers, signed autographs, posed for selfies and even served at the bar.

Mr Leggatt said: “He is a very good friend of mine who I got to know when I played rugby league for Oldham.”

Also proving popular at the opening were shire horses provided by Thwaites Brewery. Sadly, they weren't white.

Mr Leggatt, who previously worked in international sales and marketing for the hotel industry, took over the pub in September and is determined to make it a traditional rural pub featuring darts, dominoes, quizes and themed nights.

“My wife was a hospice volunteer so we have decided to make Bury Hospice the pub’s charity,” he said.

“We are planning to hold a barbecue and other events in the future to raise funds for it.”
