FREE meals are being served up for vulnerable families thanks to a TRA and not-for-profit organisation.

Families and individuals on low income or receiving benefits are able to enjoy a free breakfast at Chesham Fold Community Centre in Bury.

The meals are being provided by Chesham Fold Tenant and Resident Association and the non-profit Seven Stones Organisation.

Sue Smith, a volunteer at Chesham Fold TRA, said: “We don’t think that people should skip meals or children go to school hungry in any circumstance, so we hope these mealtimes provide a support to those in our community who may need it."

Children are invited to choose from a selection of toast, cereal, fruit or cereal bars at the club every Wednesday and Friday between 8am and 8.45am.

While adults, including the homeless, can access a free meal on Tuesdays between 1pm and 2pm. These lunches include dishes such as curry, casseroles and soups.

The meals provided are suitable for vegetarians but attendees must register in advance and advise of any allergies.

Pastor David Grimshaw, who helped set up the breakfast club, said: “We run these meals as we know it can be difficult in this day and age for some people working on a very low income to know where their next meal is going to come from.”
