A SUPER gran is proving you are never too old to have a go as she gears up to abseil down Peel Tower.

Jane Skates previously undertook the 128-foot descent down the Sir Robert Peel memorial when she was 76.

But the brave Walmsley resident, now aged 82, will again take the leap from the tower on Holcombe Hill, this time alongside family and friends, in aid of Bury Hospice.

Ms Skates, who attends a weekly fitness class at Castle Leisure Centre, said she is 'fit as a fiddle'.

"I like to do things for charity and I saw someone abseiling on television years ago and I thought I wanted a go", she said.

"I don’t particularly like heights. I remember going up Blackpool Tower and looking down and thinking 'it’s a long way' but abseiling was something I wanted to do.

"The first one, when I was 76, I did with my sister and this one is with family and friends.

"My grandson is also doing it with a number of his friends.

"I am looking forward to it."

The abseil will take place on Saturday, July 21, and the family hopes to raise about £4,000.

A Bury Hospice spokeswoman said: "Jane approached Bury Hospice because she wanted to do an abseil for us.

"We are extremely proud and in awe of her."
