Award is made to order for Delicious takeaway

2:37pm Saturday 7th June 2008

A POPULAR sandwich bar is cutting itself a large slice of success.

Delicious, run by partners Karen Cooke and John McCaffery, has won the 2007 small business of the year award on the bestofbury website.

The takeaway, based in Silver Street, Bury, has been trading since September of 2006 and throughout that time Delicious has built up a loyal band of clients.

Both Karen and John have more than ten years of experience in the food trade and this is their first business venture.

Commenting on the online award, Karen (29), said: "As you can imagine, we are extremely proud of our store and are delighted to have received some recognition for all our hard work.

"We serve freshly prepared sandwiches and salads made to order and offer two home-made soups every day. Our fresh fruit salads and home-made cheesecakes are always popular and we only serve fair trade gourmet coffee.

"We use local produce where possible and most of our suppliers are based in the Bury area," she added.

John (27), commented: "Being self-employed means that we have more control and can put our own ideas into use. We also offer corporate and private catering.

"We have a core of loyal customers and these include passing trade and staff attached to local businesses like solicitors and accountants. The award is great for us because it is based on customer feedback."

Delicious, which employs a four-strong staff, has seen annual trade increase by 30 per cent since the shop initially opened.

John continued: "I think our clients are more aware of the fact that the sandwiches are made to order and in front of them in our shop."
