A GREENMOUNT-based company is certainly switched on when it comes to harnessing the lucrative marketing potential of mobile phones.

Creative communications solutions firm 8K is ringing in the changes by pioneering mobile media to provide clients with a new dimension in the way they can actively promote and enhance their products and services.

Adrian Smith and his sister-in-law, Catherine, have pooled their experience gained in their respective career fields to launch 8K media which is making its mark locally.

The firm has already clinched contracts with local estate agencies and hopes to expand the service across the sector to enable more and more customers to benefit from their mobile marketing skills.

And it's the popularity of the ever-changing and continually developing mobile phone which has acted as a catalyst to 8K, based in Holly Mount Lane.

As Adrian stressed: "There are more than 56 million mobile phones in the UK. Virtually everyone in the country has a mobile phone. When people leave their house, they'll check they have their car keys and their mobile with them. They've become a part of our lives."

Because of this, more and more companies are using telecoms technology to target customers via their mobile phones. This provides firms with a new and vital outlet previously unavailable.

And 8K is demonstrating the expertise to make it happen. Adrian says the company can deliver the power of mobile and allow communication in a "uniquely personal way."

The Greenmount firm has masterminded this new service for the Helling Massey and Pearson Ferrier estate agencies. Now, anyone viewing a property externally can tap in a special number to obtain details on the spot.

Explained Adrian: "This is a unique number which will bring an instant response. They will get a 160-character message, giving a summary of the property. All we have to do is to load up the information which is sent to the appropriate mobile phone.

"Whatever the property, we will simplify all the information down into a readable text. We have invested in computer equipment and software which allows us to deal with mobile phone inquiries and to send out the automated responses."

Looking to the future, 8K plan to harness mobile technology further to provide would-be house buyers with more than just words. "We are trying to move to video and to bring videos of the property to mobile phone users. They will be able to see inside the property."

Building on the success achieved so far within the housing market, the company hopes to significantly expand its influence within this promising sector.

Adrian, who has a background in telecoms and IT, said: "We are currently negotiating with the National Association of Estate Agents in the hope that we can roll out this service across all its members. There are several things in the pipeline at the moment."
