RINGING in the changes to help small telecoms firms cut their costs!

That's four experienced engineers who have left Bury-based Pennine Telecom to launch their own enterprise, with the full blessing of their former bosses.

Atrium Telecom, based in Manchester Road, Bury, provides a bespoke installation service to larger telecom companies. Previous employers Pennine are backing their ex-personnel by deciding to use Atrium as their preferred sub-contractor. The Atrium foursome comprise Kevin Beswick, Garry Hall, Daniel McDaid and Phil Daniels.

Kevin said: "After much market research, we came to the conclusion that many resellers of telecom systems are in the situation where they are struggling to expand. The set up costs of employing and training engineers to the required level is prohibitively expensive.

"With us, resellers now have the opportunity to expand their selling platform with the knowledge that there is a team of engineers able to carry out the installation work on their behalf. This enables resellers to cope with fluctuations in their workload."

Atrium Telecom are able to assist resellers by carrying out surveys, helping with the complex costing and configuration of telephone systems and following the work all the way through the installation stage, including the provision of training. The newly-launched Bury business provides an installation service for Panasonic, NEC and Avaya Systems as well as installing data infrastructures.

Kevin added: "Given that there are generally fluctuations in workload for the smaller telecom companies, we can in effect plug the gap', taking on work at busy times.

"Business is doing well for a new-start company, but time will tell. The fact that telecoms is something of a cut throat industry actually works in our favour because we enable other telecoms companies to save money on their overall installation costs.

"Atrium Telecom's short term goals are to continue to build the partnerships we already have, especially with our previous employer, Pennine Telecom. Long term goals are to partner with other telecoms companies and to expand our team of engineers to enable us to provide a service that can deal with much larger telecoms installations."
