Headteacher quizzed over porn is cleared

A HEADTEACHER arrested and suspended on suspicion of downloading child porn has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Damian Marsh, head of St Andrew's CE Primary School in Ramsbottom was arrested on January 24 following an allegation that he had indecent images of children on his computer.

Rossendale CID launched an investigation into the allegations and Mr Marsh's computers were seized and examined by experts at Lancashire Constabulary Headquarters.

Mr Marsh's ex-partner has since been arrested and appeared in court for peverting the course of justice.

No indecent images were found and Mr Marsh, who lives in Bacup, Rossendale, is no longer being investigated by police.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "The original informant to the police, Andrew Collis, 41 years from Shawfield, Rawtenstall, who is Mr Marsh's ex partner, was later arrested and charged with doing an act intending to pervert the course of justice, remanded in custody and appeared before Burnley Magistrates court on February He has been granted bail with conditions not to enter Lancashire."

A spokesman for Bury Council said: "We were very happy to read the police press statement.

"We have a meeting with the police scheduled for later this week. We will be able to asses our position after that, and in the meantime we are keeping in touch with the head teacher and the school.

"He is fully aware of the procedures we need to follow, and our desire for a speedy resolution.
