A man was robbed while night fishing at a tarn in Bury.

Shortly before 12.20am on Saturday June 20, the 38-year-old victim was lying down in his tent while fishing alone at a tarn off Garside Hey Road.

He then heard nearby rustling and opened his tent to see two offenders just outside. They threatened to stab him if he left his tent. They punched and kicked him through the tent before stealing fishing tackle including two rods, reels, a tripod and bite alarms worth several hundred pounds in total.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises in the attack and was taken to Fairfield Hospital where he was kept in overnight as a precaution.

PC Mark Robertson, of Bury volume crime team, said: "This was a violent attack on a man hoping to have a peaceful night fishing.

"His rods had the initials PK HZ scratched into them so they will be immediately recognisable.

"I now want to hear from anyone who is offered fishing tackle in suspicious circumstances."
