TOTTINGTON will stage its own mini-Glastonbury today with the return of the popular Music in the Park festival.
The event, now in its eighth year, will feature a rich selection of music and acts.
Once again, the bandstand in Whitehead Gardens in Chapel Street is the venue for today’s musical extravaganza, which is being staged by Tottington St Anne’s Church.
Music lovers will gather in the gardens to welcome Tottington Public Band, who are scheduled to launch the programme with an appearance at 12.30pm.
The other acts to appear are Shameless at 1pm; Bury ACA Peelers at 1.30pm; Dodgers at 1.50pm; Leeds Steel at 2.20pm; Atlanta Roots at 2.50pm; Bloco Ashe Samba Band at 3.30pm; and Bronx at 3.45pm.
Organiser Geoff Leach said: “We have five new acts this year, including a choir, but we are also pleased to welcome back two of our favourites, Atlanta Roots and, from Leeds High School, Leeds Steel.
“This is the first time since we started the event that we have had a proper sound system and our thanks go to PD Sound and Light.
“Other attractions during the afternoon will include a beer tent, barbecue, stalls and games.
“All proceeds will go towards the ongoing refurbishment of Tottington St Anne’s Church hall, which will be open for people to look at the work that has already been undertaken.”
Motorists are advised that Chapel Street will be closed to traffic for the afternoon and the diversion is by Royds Street and Kirklees street.
A “no parking” notice will be in place along the Conservative Club side of Royds Street from noon until 6pm.
