IT’S “sofa” so good for a new furniture charity which officially opened its doors in Bury this week.
The organisation has been set up to provide household goods for people struggling to afford such items.
Bury Furniture Charity, located in Wash Lane, was opened by the mayor, Councillor Sheila Magnall, on Monday.
The charity is operated by the Bury-based Meridian Foundation which also rents out around 200 properties to low-income families throughout Greater Manchester and holds training courses for the unemployed.
Bury Furniture Charity manager, Mr Eric Mather, welcome the mayor and briefed her about the organisation. He said: “There is a need for low cost furniture to help people in the area who can’t always afford new. We recycle furniture donated to us by Bury residents who no longer have a use for it.
“And if it is in reasonable condition, we will clean and prepare it, ready to supply those in need.
“If people are referred to us by agencies, we will make sure that they have a bed to sleep in. We turn no one away.”
Cllr Magnall said she was impressed by the range of furniture in stock and endorsed the work and services of the charity.
Bury Furniture Charity, which can be contacted on 07506 774962, can also supply white goods, such as fridges and freezers, and can collect and deliver where necessary.
