MORE than 40 years after staging its first production, a newly-refurbished Ramsbottom theatre is ready to reopen.

Guests will join founding members when they cut the ribbon to officially launch the £400,000 redevelopment of the Theatre Royal on December 4.

The Players will perform pieces from their current production The Circle, by Somerset Maugham, to an invited audience, while the Youth Theatre will perform scenes from Snow White.

There will also be songs from the Square Street Singers.

Volunteers have raised more than half the renovation costs.

A fundraising campaign is under way to raise the rest of the money required.
