SOCIAL media site Twitter is being harnessed to bring the latest local authority information to Bury residents.
Twitter fever has gripped the nation throughout 2009, with people detailing their every waking movement in just 140 characters.
Now Bury Council is the latest local authority to use the tool to get across important messages.
The type of information that will appear on the council’s Twitter feed will include links to the latest news, road closures, events, pictures and last minute information that people need to know.
Cllr Yvonne Creswell, executive member for community engagement and user focus, said: “Using social media is a great way of reaching the community .
“Twitter can also help us send out important information in an emergency and engage with sections of the community which may not be aware of important council services.”
You can follow the council on twitter at @burycouncil.
