Dog show in park is a real bow wow!

DESPITE the poor weather, organisers of a dog show in Whitefield had such a good time, they will be “bark” again next year!

More than 200 animal lovers visited Philips Park on Sunday to enjoy a fun-filled day with well behaved and talented pets.

Volunteers from Bury Dog Club served up a feast of entertainment, with a ‘flyball’ dog assault course, a cute-puppy contest and dog obedience demonstrations.

Organiser Judi Priestley, from Whitefield, said she was delighted with the turnout. She said: “It wasn’t the best weather, but we were thrilled with the response we had from our publicity of the event.

“There was a very good mix of families who came dogless and families who came with their dogs, but everyone joined in with the spirit of the day.

“I have been training with the club for four years and we have never done anything like this in that time. We are going to make it an annual event, or maybe do it twice a year.”

She added: “We had a lot of enquires from people about joining the club and quite a few people wanted to find out more about flyball, which a group called Northern Bytes runs in Heaton Park each Tuesday.”

Proceeds from a raffle and tombola meant the club broke even on the event.

Its dog trainers meet each Sunday at 9.30am in Philips Park. New members are welcome.
