Trainee chef Linda Bradford (16) and Warrant Officer Pete Rhodes discuss the Armed Forces Bursary Scheme
BURY College students are among the first in the country to take part in a pilot scheme run by the Army.
Seven students have been chosen for the Armed Forces Bursary Scheme, which will allow them to get an insight into the Army and the careers available.
They will take part in a five-day Army course at Catterick or Ripon, receive financial support during their studies, and have a mentor to provide advice and guidance.
The students involved are Victoria Hendrick (17), James Hawkins (16), and Nicol Farren (17), who are studying on the public services programme, Stephen Shuttleworth (16) and Matthew Forrest (16), who are studying engineering diplomas, Joseph Webb (16), who is studying for a diploma in sport, and trainee chef Linda Bradford (16).
They will be able to join the Army at entry level once they have completed their studies.
The pilot scheme is currently taking place in 40 colleges across the country and will be rolled out nationwide from September.
