A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Bury has been jailed for five years after a major operation against gun crime in the South Manchester area.
Jahanger Majid (29,), of Valley Mill Lane, was one of nine people arrested when up to 300 officers took part in raids across Trafford last January.
Police launched the investigation, dubbed Operation Werewolf, following the murders last year of pals Ucal Chin and Tyrone Gilbert. Three guns, loaded and ready to fire, were recovered in the raids.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, Majid pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition. Two other offenders Michael Pearson (28), of Roedean Gardens, Flixton, and Mazhar Mohammed (24), of Albion Street, Old Trafford, were each jailed for seven years after admitting the same charge.
During the police operation, and following months of intelligence gathering, officers searched 20 houses, mainly in Trafford and Eccles.
In court Judge Roger Thomas QC said it was clear there was a very strong connection in Manchester between the possession and use of firearms and the mis-use of drugs.
He told Majid - who was said to have links with gangs: "A Browning gun loaded with five rounds of ammunition was recovered from your property in Bury.
"You explained to the police that you were keeping the weapon for the people who really owned it.
"You explained that you were keeping it in Bury so it would be some distance away from the areas of Old Trafford and Stretford.
"You said that you were trying to better yourself. You moved to Bury into a pleasant enough flat with a girlfriend and were settling down.
"Your old associates asked you to keep this gun for them.
"You should understand that if anybody for whatever reason, if they take possession of weapons and keep them even for others, they will end up with long prison sentences.
"These courts understand how serious it is for anybody to have any contact with firearms particularly in Manchester."
After the case, Detective Superintendent Darren Shenton, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "The sentences passed give a clear indication that this sort of criminality will be dealt with severely, reflecting both the views of the judicial system and together with that of the police and the community they serve."
Father-of-two Ucal Chin (24) was shot dead in June last year as he was driving a car. Father-of-three Tyrone Gilbert (23) was gunned down a month later as he attended Chin's funeral. Seven men are awaiting trial in connection with the killings.
