Do you think it is right that the landlord of the Duke William pub in Ainsworth has been ordered to pull down a smoking shelter which had been built without planning permission?

Children's centre set for June opening

A NEW children's centre to serve families in East Bury will be completed by the end of June.

The centre is being built at Broad Oak Sports College and will complement other community services already offered from the Hazel Avenue school.

It will also operate in various outreach locations in order to be available to families across the area.

Builders are more than half way through its construction and should hand over the building to centre co-ordinator Debbie Margiotta on June 23.

"We are very pleased that the new building is well on course and will soon be able to offer families numerous family support sessions and advisory services.

"These will include services from midwives and health visitors and numerous family support sessions," said Debbie.

"It will also offer useful parenting courses, play and stay sessions for parents, carers and their children, as well as support for local childminders and home support visits."

The centre will also enjoy links with other schools and information services such as the Citizens Advice Bureau as well as Job Centre Plus so that the latest job vacancies can be accessed and benefits advice given.

Broad Oak is one of eight new children's centres being introduced in Bury, adding to existing centres in Redvales, Hoyle and Besses.

Mr Neil O'Connor, Broad Oak head teacher, said: "As a truly extended school, Broad Oak is at the heart of the community and we are committed to improving the opportunities and health not just of our students, but of all East Bury residents "The new children's centre will ideally complement our public leisure centre and borough-wide sports and health initiatives."
