A schoolboy's dream to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney could become a reality.

Teenage football sensation Nick Ajose, who is a pupil at St Gabriel's RC High School, has won a scholarship with Manchester United with a professional contract, and the chance to play regular football at the Theatre of Dreams, just twelve months away.

Nick, who can play on either wing, has spent the last two years developing his footballing skills at the Red Devils' academy at Carrington training ground. He can now boast having the ball control of Ronaldo, the strength of Rooney, the pace of Ryan Giggs but also the modesty of midfielder Paul Scholes.

On top of all that, Nick is already an England international, having played a dozen games - and scored once - for the Under 16 and Under 17 youth teams.

He is just one of two current Man United academy players to be offered a scholarship. He said: "It is every boys dream to play for a top Premiership team and their national team. I am absolutely delighted to be given the scholarship and I will work hard to see how far I can go."

After completing the scholarship, Nick will be eligible to sign a professional contract with the club when he turns 17 Despite the potential for a multimillion pound football career, Nick of Moorcroft, Edenfield, is currently concentrating on passing his GCSE exams prior to leaving St Gabriel's in June.

Mr Dan Stewart, head of year at the Bridge Road school, predicted: "Nick will go all the way. He has shown great dedication and determination to hone is footballing skills. He is already an England international and he now stands of the verge of playing for one of the country's top clubs.

"Nick has balanced his time between playing football and studying hard in his subjects at school and he is expected to get high grades in his exams."
