THE FINISHING line is on the horizon for determined walker Ian Orrell, who has crossed the Scottish border on his way from Land's End to John O'Groats.
Ian (60), of Higher Lane, Whitefield, is aiming to raise £6,000 for homeless charity Emmaus and passed through Edinburgh on Tuesday after entering Scotland last week.
The former teacher's fundraising total has reached £3,700 and he is hoping to cross the finishing line of the 875-mile trek in three weeks.
"I am really happy with the progress I have made in the last week, including a 116-mile stint in five days. The hot weather sucks the life out of you, but it's better than wind and rain," said Ian.
He added: "The amount we have raised so far is impressive and I would like to thank everyone who has dug deep."
