A BURY bus service has been scrapped and two others are under threat after an operator withdrew them at short notice.

Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) has stepped in to ensure that essential bus services previously operated by Vale of Manchester are maintained.

Vale had advised it could no longer continue operating eight services under contract to GMPTE.

The GMPTE is offering emergency contracts to other bus operators and hopes to restore most of the services affected in the next few days.

These include the 512 Bury-Ringley Bridge-Farnworth -Bolton and the 513 Bury- Whitefield-Farnworth-Bolton services which operate hourly throughout the daytime, Monday to Saturday.

But the 514 commercial service to Bury, Farnworth, Walkden and the Trafford Centre will not be replaced as passengers can use other services to reach most parts of its route.

Dear Maggie, then John got slated by the Labour leaders for bus deregulation.

"When we get into power we will do something about it" I heard them say.

That was 11 years ago. I am still waiting Mr Brown, still waiting.

I have only used public transport to go to the trafford centre once (only been 3 times since it opened) and it was not the easiest way to get there with a travel system. I noticed that the 514 went near enough from outside where I live directly to the trafford centre and it was a bus that catered for prams too (extra bonus), I was waiting until the better weather came and was going to use this service to get to the trafford centre, but now they have taken it off, then it will work out dearer and harder for me to get there.
