REPRESENTATIVES from Bury firms were among 130 guests who witnessed a glittering awards evening to celebrate the development and achievement of young people in construction.

The awards, now in their third year, are an initiative held by The Construction Development Alliance (CDA) whose chairman is Reid Lewis, of Bury-based RGP Architects. Other local firms involved include Nolan Redshaw and Poole Dick Associates.

Founded as a voluntary group to support and recognise young construction talent throughout the North West, this year the CDA’s nominated charity was The Sophie Lancaster Foundation in memory of the girl who died after being attacked in Bacup in 2007.

The awards event held at St Mary’s Chambers in Rawtenstall raised £695 for the good cause.

Mr Lewis said: “We were delighted to support the foundation. We focus on rewarding young people on their career and social development and we deemed it fitting to partner a charity whose aim is as like-minded as ours.”

Kate Conboy-Greenwood, representing The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, said “Such events show how generous people are and all I can say is a big thank you.

“The money received will be channelled into the work we undertake with young people in schools and colleges, as part of Sophie’s legacy, to create safer communities that celebrate difference.”
