A BURY hair salon is making the "headlines".

For Bobbles scooped one of the titles at the English Hair and Beauty Awards which attracted more than 500 guests to the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

The awards, now in their fourth year, is a staple event in the industry calendar which celebrates the breadth of talent and style across the country.

The 2015 event was a record year for nominations with thousands received from the English public who voted for their favourite stylists and therapists.

Bobbles won the Team/Service of the Year North West accolade. It was one of nine regional titles awarded on the night.

The glamorous evening was hosted by beauty queen, Rachelle Perez, and she was joined on the night by London singer, Dora and the Explorers who performed to the packed venue.

A total of £1,500 was raised during the evening for the official charity partner of the awards, the Make a Wish Foundation UK.

Bobbles was established in Tottington in 1984 by Mark and Kathryn Tonge and a second salon opened in Bury town centre in 1998.

Mr Tonge said: "We are really pleased to have won this as we've put in a lot of hard work into being out there with new trends, cuts and colours. We have 30 staff and we've also won other competitions in the past."

Also figuring in the same awards was Hayley Parker, who works at Bury's Academy Hair in Bolton Road.

She was one of the nominees for the coveted "Woman Stylist of the Year" accolade, but failed to win outright on the night.

Hayley, aged 29, started her career in well-known salons including Pierre Alexandra and Vidal Sassoon.
