A CARE home dementia unit has been completed as part of a £4.1 million project.

Developer Construction Partnership UK has finished the 53 bed scheme for Capstone Care, next door to the existing 50-bed Walshaw Hall Care Home on greenbelt land in Bradshaw Road, Walshaw.

Bosses behind the project say it will cater for an increased demand in round the clock dementia care.

Two neighbours had formally objected to the proposals, claiming the three-storey building would be too tall and a new car park would not be required, but developers were given planning permission by Bury Council in 2013.

The new dementia unit, named the Beeches, is a three storey facility designed by Warrington-based DWA Architects.

It has also included associated landscaping, and a new car park to cater for increased usage.

Set in four acres of woodland and gardens in a Victorian manor house, it also features patio areas and lounges with floor to ceiling windows overlook the countryside and provide tranquil areas for residents to enjoy the views.

Alan Clayton, co-owner of Walshaw Hall, said: "Together the Beeches and Walshaw Hall provide safe, effective and personalised care and support delivered by competent, trained, knowledgeable staff who have empathy and passion for working with people and for seeing each as an individual."

CPUK’s work in the care home sector includes building a £3.5 million care home in Southport for dementia sufferers and an extension to a nursing and residential centre in Alderley Edge for healthcare provider BUPA.

Steve Burke, managing director of the Skelmersdale based firm, said: “Our considerable experience in delivering healthcare projects on time and to budget played a major part in sealing this contract with Capstone Care.

"We have built up a strong reputation among healthcare providers and developers who respect our expertise in this area of construction.

"This is one of a number of specialist dementia care projects that we have been involved in as care providers work to meet the increasing demand for modern, state-of-the-art facilities in their communities."
