Week 15 February 18

MATCH of the week last week was a difficult choice with the unusual occurrence of two drawn matches.

The match at Stopes Tavern where Paul Gardner's team hosted Heap Bridge Social Club was the pick as it was a relatively high-scoring game that went down to the last question.

Heap Bridge, who come together from the far reaches of Rochdale in some cases, are banishing their fabled awayday blues this season.

The score (which equals any top score on the night) was a superb 49-49 draw.

Team of the week: Stopes Tavern who are starting a late surge. . . or are they?

Just pipped for match of the week was the game at Pack Horse Affetside where Rose and Crown Bury were the visitors.

Either side could have won this match which featured a last round comeback as it ended up a draw (41-41).

The match at the Sun Dial, where the Swan and Railway A were the visitors was a very competitive game as well.

The Swans pushed in-form Dial all the way and even included a full house on the last round to almost grab a surprise win before succumbing by only four points in a 39-35 scoreline.

The Radcilffe derby between Swan B and the league leading Radcliffe Cricket Club did not turn out to be the close affair predicted.

The Swans froze on the night as the cricketers ran away to a final score of 31-49.

Final game this week was the war of the Roses at Rose and Crown Starling where Rose and Crown Ramsbottom were the visitors.

There was a slight panic before the match as the questions were at the wrong venue.

With Peter Taylor resting this week it was his brother Ian skippering the side with Margaret Chamberlain, Sue Booth and Martin Baggolly providing the back up knowledge.

The visitors didn't get away to a good start when choosing to go an unusual second with the questions and immediately fell eight points behind after round one.

With teetotal Kieran failing along with the legend Saint' Wally in the individuals, things looked down for the home side but Rose Rammy still lost another two points.

Round three saw the visitors score heavily with a full house and bonuses while the home team had a Jurrasic nightmare with only Peter Scudamore riding a winner for them.

However, an eight pointer in the stick or twist, against a two saw the home side to a half-time lead of 25-17.

Round five saw the Rose Starling pull a further four points away but two points were recovered by Rammy in round six.

The individual round seven had the home side reeling and a full house and bonuses for Ian and Sue saw the gap narrow to just two points going into the last round.

The Starling side eased to a full house in the last round though and the final score was 49-41.
