A RANGE of beautiful birds were on display at the Radcliffe and District Homing Society's annual show.
Pigeons usually achieve sporting success by their performances in flight, but the annual show was the one occasion when the judges were more interested in appearance than racing prowess.
The show was held at the Swan and Railway Hotel, in Spring Lane, and the judges were brothers, Mr R. J. Stewart and T. L. Stewart. There were more than 60 entries in the show, which was lower than the previous year.
The most successful exhibitor was Mr J Tucker, whose birds won the two main awards for the best bird in the show and the best opposite sex.
On show in the water classes for birds which have flown in races from France were Mr Roberton and Mr Hulme's Lancashire Combine winner from Rennes, and Mr J Dooley's Lancashire Combine winner from Marennes. The two birds obtained the highest honours possible for pigeon racing in Lancashire.
