Holcombe Hill

Fair game on show again

MORE than 200 visitors flocked to the 166th Holcombe Old English Gamefowl Club’s annual gamecock show.

The event was held on New Year’s Day at the Royal British Legion club in Central Street, Ramsbottom, where 19 exhibitors showed 85 birds.

Club honorary secretary Mr Russell Taylor said: “The weather prevented some of the usual exhibitors from travelling, but there were still visitors from Kent, South Wales, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Australia as well as a strong representation from Lancashire.

“While the number of exhibitors was about the same, the number of birds shown was a little down on last year.

“More than 200 people visited the show during the afternoon, many of them locals continuing the tradition of supporting the cock show on New Year’s Day.

“It was another successful show, with thanks due to the Royal British Legion for hosting the event.”
