FORMER Bury Council chief executive Dennis Taylor is providing a helping hand to the PETAL charity which is helping in the fight to eradicate children's cancers.

Mr Taylor, who lives in Brandlesholme, said: "As a cancer survivor myself, I realise how vital the success of their efforts will be at a time when public funding is diminishing and we are dependent more and more on the amazing generosity of the great British public."

He has hailed the charity's recent achievement in raising £1 million for research projects in Manchester.

Mr Taylor, who is helping to raise maximum awareness of PETAL, held the post of Bury Council's chief executive between 1997 and 2001.
