MORE than 150 new homes – 10 per cent of them affordable – will be built in Radcliffe after plans were passed by councillors.

An altered proposal to build 153 new homes on land between York Street and Bury Street was debated by Bury Council’s planning control committee.

The plans were submitted to the authority last year on behalf of Cantt Pak and Countryside Properties after an application to build an estate on the site was first approved in 2011.

Three residents objected to the plans for the 7,435 square metre housing estate on the site of a former dye works over potential parking issues and traffic congestion.

One condition is that Cantt Pak must keep the commercial building on the site, which is currently occupied by Wincanton Logistics, open for employment for at least five years.

Cantt Pak have also confirmed 10 per cent of the homes will be affordable and are in discussions with Great Places housing association.

It is estimated another 105 houses will be privately rented by accommodation company Sigma, and the remaining 48 will be put up for sale.
