CANAL society volunteers cleaned up a neglected towpath in Ringley — with a little help from almost 100 teenagers.
The Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal Society held a working party to tackle the overgrown towpath last month and were assisted by young people taking part in voluntary work through National Citizens Service (NCS).
This was the second weekend in which the NCS group had worked to clear back overgrown vegetation blocking the towpath, uncover coping stones to identify the edge of the canal and remove overhanging trees and branches and over two weekends nearly one kilometre was cleared.
The next working party will take place between October 18 and 19 and will be at Nob End locks in Little Lever, Bolton.
