Do you think it is right that the landlord of the Duke William pub in Ainsworth has been ordered to pull down a smoking shelter which had been built without planning permission?

Stars ready to turn out in memory of Joe

CELEBRITIES are to attend a star-studded charity ball in memory of murdered schoolboy Joe Geeling.

The family of the 11-year-old cystic fibrosis sufferer from Bury, who was killed in 2006 by a fellow pupil, are holding a Shining Star Ball at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, on April 19.

Two years ago, on February 28, Joe was stabbed to death by pupil Michael Hamer and his body found the following day in Whitehead Park, Bury.

Hamer, now aged 16, was initially ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years before he could be considered for release but this was increased to 15 years on appeal.

Joe was described in a tribute by one of his teachers at St Gabriel's RC High School as a "Shining Star" hence the name of the ball which has two main sponsors, the Nationwide Building Society and Peel Holdings, and aims to raise up to £100,000.

Joe and his parents Tom and Gwen were frequent visitors to Booth Hall Children's Hospital where he received first rate quality of care for cystic fibrosis.

This service is set to continue in the New Children's Hospital, Manchester.

All proceeds from The Shining Star Ball will be divided between the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the New Children's Hospital Appeal.

Following a drinks reception, the evening will include a three-course dinner, charity auction and raffle and live entertainment.

Among the stars present will be Coronation Street's Bill Roach and Tupele Dorgu, who plays Kelly in the soap.

Further details of the event and the Joe Geeling Trust can be found on www.joegeelingtrust.co.uk
