THE full list of candidates bidding to claim Bury’s two parliamentary seats at May’s General Election has been revealed.

Six candidates will contest Bury South, while five candidates will stand in the Bury North seat.

Candidates for the Conservatives, Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, UK Independence Party and the Green Party will stand in both constituencies, with the English Democrats also contesting the Bury South seat.

At the 2010 General Election in Bury South, Labour’s Ivan Lewis, who was first elected in 1997, retained the seat with a 3,292 majority.

In Bury North, Conservative David Nuttall wrestled the seat from Labour's David Chaytor, winning by a 2,243 majority.

The General Election will take place on Thursday, May 7.

Residents have until April 20 to make sure they are on the electoral register and entitled to vote. Anyone who wishes to register should go tohttps://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Prior to May 7, electors will receive a polling card giving details of their nearest polling station. All polling stations in Bury will be open between 7am and 10pm.

Electors can choose to vote by post by contacting the council's Elections Office and requesting an application..

Votes are counted after the polls close at 10pm on May 7, with the results expected to be declared in the early hours of Friday May 8.
