PRESTWICH cyclist Danny Franks saddled up to raise almost £800 for a charity of which he is an ambassador.

He completed an 80-mile Tour De Manc event on Sunday to generate the cash for Forever Manchester.

Danny set himself a challenge to travel around the perimeter of Greater Manchester, starting from St Mary's Park in Prestwich and taking in the sights of Marple, Stalybridge, Uppermill, the heights of Werneth Low and Bury along the way.

His idea for his Tour De Manc first came about when the Tour de France headed through Yorkshire last year, So, Danny set about planning his own route to take in some of the most spectacular views and challenging hills in this county.

All the money raised by Danny will be reinvested into communities across Greater Manchester.

He explained: "I wanted to do my Tour De Manc as I’m committed to my ambassadorial role with Forever Manchester. I want to raise money for this great charity and I got some lovely views along the way too. I loved every minute of my 80 miles of blood, sweat and gears and want to build on it next year, getting some more riders involved.”

Forever Manchester chief executive Nick Massey added: “We’d like to thank Danny for taking on such a tough challenge. This is another great example of the efforts that our team of ambassadors go to to raise money for us. Every penny raised will help us to make a real difference in the local communities of Greater Manchester."
