AN average of 48 crimes are reported each day in the borough, according to the latest crime statistics.

Overall, 17,572 crimes, including incidents of anti-social behaviour, were reported in Bury between September 2014 and August this year.

They totalled 8,802 in Bury South and a slightly lower figure of 8,770 in Bury North.

Residents in Prestwich, Whitefield and Radcliffe, which forms Bury South, were blighted by anti-social behaviour last year — while people living in the central Bury and Ramsbottom areas reported more instances of violent crime.

The latest crime statistics showed police received 3,221 reports of anti-social behaviour in Bury South compared to 2,823 in Bury North.

According to the figures revealed by CrimeStatUK, the Bury North constituency had a higher number of violent crimes with 1,555 incidents reported, in comparison to 1,347 in Bury South.

June this year saw a spike in anti-social behaviour, with officers receiving 354 calls in Bury South, while the highest number of violent crimes were reported in March this year, when police dealt with 160 complaints in Bury North.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jones, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bury Division, said: “Crime statistics are a real opportunity for police to be able to hone down on issues in an area and make informed decisions on the type of policing required.

“This data means we are able to provide an effective service for the community, which ensures our hotspot areas are given the most appropriate level of policing and support.”
