Man charged with robbery

A MAN has appeared in court charged with robbery.

Thomas Kay, aged 24, of Plover Drive, Bury, appeared before Bury magistrates on April 26 to face seven charges.

He is accused of robbing a man of a mobile phone worth £400, robbing another man of £65, attempting to rob another man and assaulting a fourth man while trying to rob him.

Kay is also charged with three counts of threatening people with a kitchen knife.

The charges relate to alleged incidents in Scholes Lane and Ostrich Lane in Prestwich and at a Metrolink station Bury, on April 24 and 25.

Kay has yet to enter a plea and his case was moved to Bolton Crown Court where a hearing is due to take place on May 23.

He was remanded in custody until then.

Woman stole Dyson vacuum cleaner

A WOMAN stole a bag-less vacuum cleaner from a supermarket.

Caroline Lloyd, of Arley Avenue, Bury, shoplifted the Dyson appliance, which came with a price tag of £299, on March 11.

The 48-year-old admitted the theft at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

Lloyd, was given a 12-month conditional discharge by the court for the offence, which happened at an unspecified Tesco branch in Bolton.

She was ordered to pay compensation to Tesco of £299 and to pay a victim surcharge of £15.

Woman attacked man in Bury

A WOMAN has been sentenced for attacking a man in Bury.

Lorna Copeland, aged 23, of Bradford Road, Farnworth, assaulted the man in Gigg Lane, Bury, on October 11 last year and admitted the offence to Bury magistrates on April 21.

Copeland was sentenced to a curfew, which means she must stay home from 9pm to 6am every day except Friday and Saturday until June 15.

She must also stay away from the man for at least six months and pay £210 fines and court costs.

Threats man sentenced

A MOTORIST drove past a man's house making threats to harm him in Tottington.

Kristian Mason, aged 42, Maple Avenue, Bury, also phoned the man, left threatening voicemails messages for him and sent threatening text messages to him between December 1 last year and March 9 this year, causing the man to fear for his safety.

Mason admitted one count of harassment to Bury magistrates on March 30 and, at a further hearing on April 21, was given a 12-week prison sentence for a year.

He must also stay away from the man for at least three years and pay £165 court costs.

Man cleared of assault

A MAN has been cleared of two counts of assault, but found guilty of criminal damage.

Joshua Williams, aged 25, of Chatsworth Close, Hollins, appeared before Bury magistrates on February 29 accused of assaulting a woman on January 4 and again on January 5 and damaging the door of the woman's Whitefield house on January 5.

Williams admitted criminal damage and denied the two assaults.

He was found not guilty of both counts of assault at a further hearing on April 20.

For the criminal damage offence, Williams was ordered to pay £300 to repair the door and £100 court costs.

Man guilty of assaulting woman

MATTHEW Reuhorn, aged 38, of Hazel Street, Ramsbottom, has been ordered to pay £1,594 in fines, compensation and court costs after being found guilty at Bury Magistrates Court on April 26 of assaulting a woman in Bury on January 23.

Man jailed for violating ban

A MAN who was warned to stay away from a house in Unsworth has been jailed for six weeks.

John Marland, aged 54, of no fixed address, was told by Bury magistrates last June that he must not go to an address in Hillsborough Drive.

However, he went there on April 19 and admitted doing so to Bury magistrates two days later, where he was sentenced and ordered to pay £115 court costs.

Thief is jailed over breach

A SHOPLIFTER has been jailed after he failed to turn up for a rehabilitation meeting.

Robert Lawson, aged 33, of Selby Avenue, Whitefield, committed four offences of theft last year, stealing a television, whisky, brandy and a jacket from shops in Radcliffe and Bury.

On August 18 last year, Bury magistrates sentenced him to a community order and warned him that he could face further punishment if he broke the terms of it.

However, on October 2, Lawson did not show up for a building skills for recovery meeting and could not provide a valid excuse for doing so.

Lawson also failed to get approval from probation officers before changing his address.

He admitted two order breaches to Bury magistrates at a hearing on April 21 and was jailed.

Magistrates said Lawson had shown a flagrant disregard for court orders.

Man gets curfew for order breach

BREAKING the terms of a restraining order landed a Radcliffe man in court.

Frank Peter Littler, aged 50, of Coronation Walk, had previously been told by Bury magistrates on April 28, 2015, not to contact a woman under the terms of a restraining order.

However, on April 24, he contacted the woman in Bury and he admitted that offence to Bury magistrates on April 26.

Littler was given a community order, which includes a curfew.

He must stay home from 7pm to 7am daily until May 23 and also pay £85 court costs and an £85 victim surcharge, at a rate of £5 per week.

The restraining order will continue.
