THE tickets have been snapped up, wellies are at the ready and some of dance, electronic and indie music's best acts are heading to Prestwich.

Parklife 2016 gets under way at Heaton Park today for two days of festival fun. 

More than 200 performers and DJs - including Chemical Brothers, Katy B, Major Lazer, Jess Glynne, Blossoms, Ice Cube and Annie Mac - will appear across eight stages. 

The event started out at Platt Fields in South Manchester seven years ago, before moving north in 2013. 

About 75,000 people are expected to descend on Heaton Park each day. 

There will also be some football thrown into the mix tonight as England take on Russia in Euro 2016 at 8pm. Organsiers said England's opening match of the tournament will be shown on a big screen.

Gates open at 11am today and noon tomorrow, with the event ending at 11pm both nights. Last entry is at 5pm. 

There will be three public entry and exit gates to Parklife this year which are - West Gate located on Bury Old Road, East Gate which is on Sheepfoot Lane and the North Gate is by the Lake in Heaton Park. The fast-track entrance to Parklife for VIP ticket holders is located on Bury Old Road to the north of West Gate.

The Parklife Travel Pass allows people to travel on either the direct Parklife Shuttle bus or Metrolink services from Manchester City Centre. The Parklife Shuttle bus drops off right inside the festival site. Click here for more information
