Man given curfew

A BOLTON man has been given a curfew after pleading guilty to using threatening and abusive words in Bury.

Mateusz Pielak, 25, of High View Street, pleaded guilty to the racially aggravated offence on February 27.

At Bury Magistrates on Friday he was given an electronic tag which he must wear for four weeks.

Picklak was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Driver banned

EARL Chernick, aged 33, of Church Street, Great Lever, drove a Ford Transit Van while over the legal alcohol limit in Silver Street, Bury, on February 6.

He admitted the offence to Bury magistrates on June 15 and was banned from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay £290 in fines and court costs.

Driving ban for repeat offender

A MAN who admitted driving without insurance has been banned from getting behind the wheel for six months.

Shaun Gatenby, aged 29, of Chiltern Road, Ramsbottom, committed the offence while driving a Land Rover in Dundee Lane, Ramsbottom, on February 9.

After the guilty plea, Salford and Manchester magistrates said on June 20 that Gatenby had been guilty of repeat offending and they had no choice but to ban him from driving.

He also was ordered to pay £811 in fines and court costs.

Shoplifter given five months in jail

A PROLIFIC shoplifter who targeted a series of shops has been jailed for five months.

Dean Gary Hodson, aged 29, of Thompson Drive, Topping Fold, stole £800 of goods including meat, razors, and aftershave from Bury stores including Lloyds Pharmacy and Marks and Spencer in May and June.

He also assaulting a woman in Bury last Thursday.

Hodson admitted 13 counts of theft and one count of assault to Salford and Manchester magistrates last Saturday and was jailed.

Magistrates said the offences were serious as he had committed them to feed a drug habit.

Shoplifter jailed for four months

A SERIAL shoplifter with an "appalling record" of offending has been jailed for four months.

Troy Lee Couttes, aged 28, of Kestrel Drive, Freetown, targeted Marks and Spencer, B&M Bargains and Wilko in Bury between May 25 and June 23.

He stole food, hair straighteners and toiletries with a combined value of £700.

Couttess admitted seven counts of theft to Salford and Manchester magistrates last Saturday and was jailed.

Magistrates said the offences were serious because Couttes had an appalling record for dishonesty to fund his drug habit and because he was subject to a community order at the time they were committed.

Vandalism after woman attacked

A BURY man attacked a woman and then damaged her car.

Lewis Stephen Taylor, aged 20, of Henley Close, admitted to Bury magistrates on July 22 that he assaulted the woman in Heywood and then vandalised her Vauxhall Corsa on September 13 last year.

The damage caused £740 to put right.

Taylor was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay the woman £839.20 compensation, as well as £475 court costs.

Thief broke curfew

A WOMAN who stole clothing worth £75 from Matalan in Bury has found herself back in court.

Lorna Kate Walker, aged 35, of Bury New Road, Whitefield, committed the shoplifting offence on April 24 and Bury magistrates ordered her to stick to a curfew.

However, Walker breached the curfew on four days at the end of May and was back before Bury magistrates on June 22.

She admitted breaching a curfew order and was given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Driver cleared of failing to stop

A MOTORIST has been cleared of failing to stop at the scene of a collision in Bury.

Farooq Ahmed, aged 52, of Cross Street, Nelson, was accused of driving off in a Toyota Avensis after the collision in which David Bevan was injured in Walmersley Road, Bury, on June 23 last year.

Ahmed admitted driving without due care and attention but denied failing to stop at the scene.

He was found not guilty of failing to stop at Bury magistrates on June 21.

For driving without due care and attention, Ahmed was giving five penalty points.

Phone threat man is ‘tagged’

A MAN who repeatedly sent two women abusive and threatening mobile phone messages has been electronically tagged.

At Bolton Magistrates' Court Philip Ward, aged 46, of Brunswick Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to harassing the women between April 13 and 17.

Magistrates sentenced him to a one month 7pm to 7am electronically tagged curfew and made a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim.

He was also ordered to pay £170 in costs and charges.

Driver failed to stop after crash

A DRIVER has been fined by magistrates after admitting failing to stop after an accident.

Ayibongwe Mabhena, aged 22, of Scarr Avenue, Radcliffe, was driving a BMW 525i car in Church Street, Little Lever on January 24, when it was involved in an accident with an Audi A1 on Church Street, Little Lever.

At Bolton Magistrates' Court Mabhena pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, failing to stop and failing to report an accident and having no insurance.

He was fined £150, ordered to pay £300 compensation and 10 penalty points were added to his driving licence.

Motorist is spared ban

A RADCLIFFE man has been allowed to keep his driving licence despite committing a road traffic offence.

Stuart Stephen Jones, aged 29, of Seddon Avenue, drove a Fiat Punto in Manchester Road, Whitefield, on September 21 last year without insurance.

He admitted the offence to Salford and Manchester magistrates on June 20.

Jones had previously committed other driving offences and magistrates had considered whether to ban him from the road.

However, he successfully argued that there were mitigating circumstances and a ban would cause him to suffer exceptional hardship, so he was instead given six penalty points instead and ordered to pay £225 in fines and court costs.

Knife attacker jailed

A MAN who attacked a woman and threatened her with a knife has been jailed for 18 weeks.

Jordan Mark O'Reilly, aged 20, of Stand Lane, Radcliffe, assaulted the woman in Bury on May 1.

He admitted the offence to Bury magistrates on May 3 and was also ordered to pay his victim £200 compensation.

Magistrates said the offence was serious because O'Reilly had caused significant injury to his victim due to a sustained attack and had threatened her with a knife.

O'Reilly was cleared of a further assault allegation relating to the same woman on May 1 and another assault allegation relating to a different woman April 30.

Driver avoids losing licence

Man fined for running light

RUNNING a red traffic light in Prestwich led to a man appearing in court.

Ryan Ormerod, aged 33, of Brellafield Drive, Shaw, drove a Chevrolet through the lights at the junction of Bury New Road and Fairfax Road on October 10 nine seconds after the light turned to red.

He admitted the offence to Salford and Manchester magistrates on June 22 and was given three penalty points and ordered to pay £205 fines and court costs.

Dealer to pay

A MAN who was convicted of possessing cannabis with the intent to supply has been ordered to pay back more than £17,000.

Carlo Ruzzo, aged 27, of Peveril Close, Whitefield, appeared at Bolton Crown Court, where Recorder Paul Reid QC ordered him to pay back £17,068.90 within three months or face 12 months imprisonment.
