Community order for stealing food

A BURY man has been given a community order for offences of theft and threatening behaviour.

Nicholas Boutcher, of Chessham Crescent, pleaded guilty to stealing £371 worth of meat and fish on six occasions from Marks and Spencer in Bury.

He also pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour towards a woman on July 1 in Bury.

A community order was made where he was given a drug rehabilitation requirement.

The 36-year-old must have treatment for drug dependency.

Boutcher was also ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.

A criminal behaviour order was made for two years where he must not enter Bury town centre, must not be drunk in a public place and must not wear clothing that covers his face in any retail outlet.

He was also ordered to pay £441 compensation.

Driver fined for road rage

A MOTORIST who threatened another driver with a baseball bat and chased him through Whitefield has been spared jail.

Alex Clegg, aged 30, of Manchester Road, Heywood, was driving a Silver Mazda in Bury New Road, Whitefield, on New Year's Eve with his six-year-old daughter in a rear seat.

Clegg took became angry at another driver, Stephen Penman, and was shouting and swearing for him to pull over, police said.

In order to force Mr Penman to stop, Clegg pulled out in front of his car — and then got out of the Mazda brandishing a baseball bat.

Mr Penman then drove off as Clegg ran after his car.

Clegg then got back in the car and chased Mr Penman's vehicle around the surrounding residential streets.

Mr Penman then reported the matter to police, and Clegg was charged with driving while disqualified and behaving in a threatening and abusing way to cause Mr Penman to believe violence would occur.

Clegg admitted both charges to Bury magistrates and was given a 20-week prison sentence suspended for a year.

He must also do 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £260 in fines and court costs.

Drink driver disqualified

A WOMAN who admitted drink driving has been disqualified.

Yasamin Amirabadi, of Gatehouse Court, Bury, pleaded guilty to driving a Lexus in Bury when she had 77mircogrammes of alcohol in her breath where the legal limit is 35microgrammes.

The 28-year-old was disqualified for three years, fined £110, £30 victim surcharge and ordered to pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Man jailed for ASBO breach

A MAN has been jailed for 14 weeks for breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

David Newton, aged 46, of Holden Avenue, Ramsbottom, was given the ASBO after annoying neighbours by making noise in the middle of the night over a period of time.

One of the conditions was that he was not allowed to drink alcohol in public.

However, he admitted to Bury magistrates that he did so in Bury on July 6 and again on July 8.

Magistrates said the offences were serious because Newton had offended repeatedly and there was no viable alternative to custody.

Newton must also pay £115 court costs.

Jail warning for shoplifter

A SHOPLIFTER has been warned to stay out of trouble for the next year.

Amanda Greenacre, aged 37, of Burns Avenue, Goshen, admitted to Salford magistrates that she stole clothes worth £24 from Next in Manchester and a bag and accessories from TJ Hughes in Bury, both on July 17.

She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £105 court costs.

Man jailed for harassing woman

A MAN has been given a suspended jail sentence after harassing a woman.

Vincent Prentice, aged 33, of Lowndes Street, Bolton, sent numerous text messages and made numerous phone calls to the woman in April and May.

Then on May 10, he went to her house in Radcliffe armed with a metal bar and threatened to use violence.

Prentice admitted harassment, cannabis possession, possession of an offensive weapon and threatening conduct to Bury magistrates and was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

He must also take part in 15 days of self-help sessions and pay his victim £150 compensation.

Driver used his phone at wheel

A MAN who drove on the M66 motorway near Bury while using a mobile phone has been given three penalty points and ordered to pay £224 in fines and court costs.

Aaquib Hafeez, aged 26, of Melbourne Road, Wakefield, admitted it to Bury magistrates. that he committed the offence while driving a Fiat Ducato van on May 28.

Jail warning to burglar after theft

A BURGLAR who targeted pensioners has been warned he faces jail if he reoffends in the next two years.

Mark James Turner, aged 47, of York Street, Radcliffe, went to an address in Manchester Road, Bury, on January 26 and broke into a house that is used as sheltered housing for elderly people.

Turner stole £100 cash and fled the scene.

He was charged with burglary but pleaded not guilty at Bury Magistrates Court and was found guilty after a trial.

Turner was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay £270 compensation to his victim. He must also pay £230 court costs.

Restraining order breached

A RADCLIFFE man has been told he could be jailed if he breaches a restraining order again in the next year.

Frank Peter Littler, aged 51, of Coronation Walk, had previously been told by Bury magistrates on April 28, 2015, not to contact a woman under the terms of the order.

However, on July 8, he contacted the woman in Bury and he admitted breaching the order to Bury magistrates.

Magistrates said they accepted that the woman had agreed to meet with Littler, but that that was no excuse and there had been multiple breaches of the order.

He was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £200 court costs.

Man is given drink drive ban

A DRINK driver has been banned from getting behind the wheel for three years.

Thomas Young, aged 21, of Barnes Avenue, Rossendale, drove a Volkswagen Golf in Holcombe Road, Ramsbottom, on July 23 while over the legal alcohol limit.

He admitted drink driving and cannabis possession to Bury magistrates and was also ordered to pay £280 in fines and court costs.

Man guilty of store thefts

A SHOPLIFTER has been spared jail after stealing from two shops in Bury.

Stephen Reeves, aged 49, of York Street, Radcliffe, stole Yankee candles work £49 from Clintons and a Lynx gift set worth £24 on May 12.

He denied two counts of shoplifting to Bury magistrates and was found guilty after a trial.

Reeves was given a 10-week prison sentence suspended for a year after magistrates said he had "an appalling record of dishonesty" and had failed to comply with community penalties.

He must complete a drug rehabilitation progress over the next six months and pay £780 court costs.

Town centre driver without MOT certificate fined by court

A MOTORIST who drove a car without an MOT through Bolton town centre has been fined.

Wasul Khan was caught behind the wheel of a 2004 Ford Mondeo without the correct certificate in Trinity Street, on March 27.

The 35-year-old, of Walmersley Road, Limefield, was fined £40 by Bolton Magistrates' Court and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Man pleads guilty to assault

A WHITEFIELD man has been given a suspended sentence for an assault in Bury.

David Bennett, aged 64, pleaded guilty at Bury Magistrates’ Court to assaulting Raymond James, causing him actual bodily harm, in Bury on April 18.

He also pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards George Katsouris on the same day.

Bennett, of the Woodbury Scheme, Whalley Road, was sentenced to 26 weeks, suspended for six months.

A restraining order was made where he must not contact either of the victims or enter Bury Market.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation.

A victim surcharge was not imposed because of lack of means.

Thief jailed

A THIEF has been jailed for eight weeks after stealing £120 worth of power tools from the Wilkinson shop in Bury on July 19.

George Minas, aged 39, of Radcliffe Road, Bury, admitted the offence to Bury magistrates and was also ordered to pay £115 court costs.

Driver fined over crash

A WHITEFIELD woman who crashed her car into another vehicle and then drove off has appeared in court.

Jayanti Chakravorty, aged 79, of Elms Close, was driving a Toyota Yaris in Kingswood Road, Prestwich, on December 10 last year when she smashed into a Mercedes C Class.

She appeared before Bury magistrates and pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention, failing to stop at the scene of a crash and failing to report a crash, and was found guilty of all three offences.

Chakravorty was given eight penalty points and ordered to £1,290 in fines and court costs.

Man did not do unpaid work

A DRINK driver who failed to turn up to do unpaid work has been spared jail.

Paul Fryer admitted to Bury magistrates in December that he drove a Mercedes Sprinter van in Prestwich on November 9 while over the legal alcohol limit.

The 51-year-old, of Sandy Lane, Prestwich, was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for a year after magistrates said the offence was serious because he had committed a similar offence in 2014.

Fryer was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work, but admitted to Bury magistrates that he failed to turn up to appointments on January 17 and on June 12 without a reasonable excuse.

Magistrates could have activated his suspended sentence, but instead chose to fine Fryer £385 and order him to complete his remaining hours of unpaid work.
