A CHARITY netball event has raised more than £250 for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

The fundraiser, which took place at Castlebrook High School in Bury, saw about 50 players take part in support of people affected by last month's terror attack at Manchester Arena.

The evening was run by staff from Active Netball UK, a netball league based in the borough.

Organiser Emma Gisbourne said: “Many people have been affected by what has happened so we decided that we wanted to help out and organised a charity netball match.

“More people than expected showed up but everyone really chipped in and showed their support throughout.

“We had a bit of a giggle too which was great to see.”

Two hours of netball action was broken up with numerous stalls selling items to add to the fund and Emma thanked people for their support.

She said: "Kirstie Mainwaring at Hair151 in Harwood volunteered her time and came along to plait the girls' hairs for a donation to the fund.

"Carrera 2000, Bury, donated T-shirts for the players.

"Tesco Ramsbottom donated drinks, crisps and chocolate to sell and Tesco Tottington donated biscuits, cakes and doughnuts to sell. Funds went to charity.

"Lynn Hambleton of Lynn's Cakes Bury provided us with some delicious cupcakes to sell for charity.

"And PDC Manchester provided us with stickers to hand out."

The total raised so far is £267 with more expected as T-shirts are sold in the coming days.

All proceeds raised will go to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.
