STRONG winds are set to hit the region today as Storm Eleanor heads for Britain's shores.
A yellow weather warning has been issued indicating that ‘very strong winds’ are expected later today and on Wednesday.
The warning is in place between 6pm today and 6pm tomorrow.
The Met Office are warning that there is ‘a small chance of injuries and danger to life, as well as minor property damage, from flying debris’.
They also warn that there may be disruption to public transport, as well as a chance of route and bridge closures and disruption to power and other services.
The warning predicts gales with gusts of 60mph to 70mph are likely while some western coastal areas have a chance of seeing gusts of up to 80mph.
Deputy chief forecaster for the Met Office, Dan Harris, added that this weekend could bring a return of colder conditions with a risk of frost, ice and wintry conditions, particularly in the north.
